- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 2 large eggs
- 3/4 cup whole milk
- 1/3 cup melted butter plus more for pan
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 4 tbsp melted butter for coating
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar for coating
- 1.5 tsp cinnamon for coating
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and butter a 9x5 loaf pan.
Whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a large bowl.
Mix eggs, milk, melted butter, vanilla, and sour cream in a separate bowl until smooth.
Fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients gently - stop as soon as no dry streaks remain. Do not overmix.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 50 to 55 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
Coat the warm loaf with melted butter, then generously apply the cinnamon sugar mixture over all sides.
- Do not overmix the batter - lumps are fine.
- Apply the cinnamon sugar coating while the bread is still warm for best results.
- Sour cream can be substituted with plain full-fat yogurt.
- Freeze for up to 2 months wrapped tightly.
