Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound 450g shrimp
  • Fresh or frozen shrimp thawed, peeled, and deveined
  • Medium or large shrimp work best but jumbo can be used if you adjust cooking time
  • 6 cloves garlic finely minced
  • Fresh garlic delivers a strong aromatic flavor
  • Adjust quantity based on personal preference some love much garlic, while others prefer a milder hint
  • 3 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Infuses the dish with a fruity robust taste
  • Butter can replace some or all of the oil if desired for a richer outcome
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes optional
  • Adds mild heat
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Enhances the overall flavor profile
  • Juice of ½ lemon about 1 tablespoon
  • Provides a bright tangy note
  • Optional but recommended for a refreshing finish
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Brings color and a hint of herbal freshness

Optional Flavor Boosters

  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika: Introduces a deeper smoky flavor
  • 1 tablespoon butter: If you crave a velvety sauce
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder: Layers extra savory dimension

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Shrimp

  • Thaw (if frozen): If using frozen shrimp, thaw them under cold running water or overnight in the fridge.
  • Peel and Devein: Remove shells and tails (optional if you like a more elegant presentation). Devein the shrimp to keep the dish clean and appetizing.
  • Pat Dry: Use paper towels to absorb excess moisture from each piece. Dry shrimp leads to better searing.

Step 2: Sauté the Garlic

  • Warm a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add 3 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Toss in minced garlic and stir for 30–45 seconds, letting the garlic infuse the oil. Do not let it burn—it should turn lightly golden, releasing that signature aroma.

Step 3: Cook the Shrimp

  • Raise heat slightly if needed.
  • Gently place the shrimp in the skillet in a single layer.
  • Season to taste with salt and black pepper, and add a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat, if desired.
  • Cook the shrimp for about 1 minute per side (or until they turn pink and opaque). Larger shrimp may need 2 minutes per side. Overcooking toughens shrimp, so watch carefully.
  • Tip: Shake or swirl the pan to help distribute the garlic evenly.

Step 4: Finish with Lemon

  • Add lemon juice to brighten the flavor.
  • Optional: Stir in butter if you prefer a richer sauce.

Step 5: Garnish and Serve

  • Remove from heat and fold in chopped parsley.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt, pepper, or red pepper flakes if needed.
  • Transfer everything to a serving dish, making sure to spoon some of the garlic-infused oil over the shrimp.
  • Serve hot with your favorite side or dip.
