Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Baking sheets
  • Parchment paper
  • Cookie scoop
  • Whisk

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt

Wet Ingredients

  • ¾ cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups chocolate chips mix of semi-sweet and dark
  • flaky sea salt for topping, optional

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and sea salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine melted butter with both brown and granulated sugars. Mix until smooth and creamy, about 2 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until no flour streaks remain. Do not overmix.
  • Fold in chocolate chips gently, distributing them evenly throughout the dough.
  • Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours for deeper flavor.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop dough into large balls (about 3 tablespoons each) and place 3 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  • Press a few extra chocolate chips on top of each dough ball for bakery-style appearance.
  • Bake for 11-13 minutes until edges are golden brown but centers still look slightly underdone.
  • Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired. Let cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

For best results, use a kitchen scale to measure flour (315g for 2½ cups). Cookies will look slightly underbaked when removed from oven—this creates the perfect gooey center. Store in an airtight container with a slice of bread to maintain softness for up to 5 days.
